In creating Gentlemen's Republic Barbersalon, owner Laura Mercedez recognized the need for a Gentlemens sanctuary. As depicted in the name of her business it’s a combination of a barbershop and a hair salon with a spa touch, just for men.
The building is a stunningly styled 1914 Henry Trost Home. It was built for Lawrence Lawson, the architect and builder of The Elephant Butte Dam. The building was a private residence for the first 75 years, and then the famed Hair Odyssey Salon for the next 20 years. In creating the Gentlemen's Republic Barbersalon concept, owner Laura Mercedez, recognized the need for a men’s grooming sanctuary where gentlemen could distinguish themselves from the regular joe. So she took on the task of remodeling the aged 80’ s look of the interior to bring it back to its original 1914 look. Now with original hardwood floors, vintage glassware, hand-picked brass-button trimmed leather chairs and a private turn-of-the-century barber collection for her rich and comfortable interiors, it is a place with small private rooms where a gentleman can review his thoughts or relax and let go of them, is a first in El Paso.

She had an epiphany and realized that men who want to look good and dapper, must endure the shame of sitting alongside women to achieve it.
